We’ll always love you, Barr Street High
You gave so much to us;
A foundation on which to build our lives –
Built with love and trust.
You gave us loving teachers
Who always did their best.
To educate and prepare us
To compete with all the rest.
You gave us many friends
Who have been with us through the years;
These friends have stood by us
Through the laughter and the tears.
You gave us pleasant memories
That we’ll always hold dear;
Those wonderful memories
We’ll treasure over the years.
Let’s take a brief look back
At the year – 1969,
And review some of these memories
That have aged like a fine wine.
We remember the smell of cigarette smoke
As we passed the boys bathroom;
Those boys had to get that last puff
Before entering their first classroom.
Let’s not forget the sweethearts
Leaning against the walls;
You’d often see them steal a kiss
As you passed them in the halls.
Who could forget the cosmetology girls
All dressed in their white;
They could give you a hairstyle
That would make you look “out of sight.”
The Marching Band was “Number One”
On that no one would wager;
But what else could it be
With “Day Love” as Drum Major.
The Barrettes always stole the show –
Those girls were so fine;
They’d strut out proudly on the field
With Bora, Mona, and Lavonia leading the line.
We loved to see the basket ball players
Take that ball and jump and swoop;
Then we’d see Oogie, Deano, or Nookie
Dunk that b a l l through the hoop.
Our football team was really tough –
They thrilled one and all;
They’d burst out on that football field
Lead by Bennie, Phil , and Paul.
Our Queens that year were lovely –
They represented us well;
Miss Barr Street – Frances, Miss May Day – Rita
Miss Homecoming – Mary Dell.
Our Prom – “A Polynesian Luau”,
Was very special occasion;
We spent many hours changing the gym
To a tropical island location.
Our class play -“Do You Trust Your Boyfriend?”
Was really very good;
Will , Lovie, and Mike Thornwell
Thought they were headed for Hollywood.
Our graduation was perfect –
We practiced and knew each step well;
For we knew i f we messed up.
We’d have to face – “Mademoiselle”.
With Mike as our president
We accomplished many things;
Like publishing the school’s only Year Book,
Pleasant memories that book will always bring.
There were many other events
That made that year so great;
And very special students
That made the school “First Rate”
Barr Street High School – Class of ’69,
We are a part of each other;
We will always remember you;
You are gone – but not forgotten!
