Dr. Deborah Cureton Inducted Into Lancaster County School District Hall of Fame

The Lancaster County School District inducted two members into the county’s Education Hall of Fame – Ernie Clyburn and Dr. Deborah Cureton – and recognized 37 retiring educators and other staffers.

Cureton has had a long career in education, starting out as a Dobson Elementary teacher in 1973. She taught and served as an associate dean at USC Lancaster, and later became dean of the University of Wisconsin-Richland. She followed her mother, Katie Brown, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame after teaching for more than 30 years.

“Dr. Deborah Cureton is one of the unsung heroes here in Lancaster County,” said Bobby Bailey.

Cureton, president of the Lancaster County Public Library Board of Trustees, said she was honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“We helped students walk through doors they never knew existed,” she said. “And that makes me proud.”
