Frances Massey Hartley
I had the honor of serving as “Miss Barr Street High 1969”, following in the footsteps of my big sister, Eula Massey Shaw, who served as” Miss Barr Street 1964”.

I attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg South Carolina, where I received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Speech Pathology. After working as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 39 years in clinical, rehabilitation, and school settings, I retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System in 2012.

I am married to Gregory Harley. We have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for the last 35 years. We have two children, Samuel Harley, who resides in High Point, North Carolina, and April Harley, who resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I continue to work part-time as a speech-language pathologist. I enjoy traveling, genealogy, coaching students in public speaking, and reading. I am a member of First Fellowship Ministries of Charlotte.

The education I received at Barr Street High, academic as well as life skills, prepared me for college and helped me fulfill my dream of helping others and giving back to the community. I will always love and respect Barr Street High School – The Golden Tigers!
